Integrations
Three ways to jot without opening the app. All three need JotSpeed Pro, and all three use the same encrypted Pro backup as the app.
- Hosted chatbot connector: a chatbot jots for you from anywhere. It can’t read your journal.
jot mcp: a chatbot on your own computer can read and jot.- Command line: jot, filter, and export from a terminal.
Hosted chatbot connector
Let a chatbot jot for you from anywhere.
JotSpeed has a hosted MCP connector. A chatbot you connect through it can add entries to your journal, and that is all: it can’t read, search, edit, or delete anything. It works in Grok Bot and in any chatbot that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth, such as Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor.
https://mcp.jotspeed.comBefore you start
- Pro is required. Chatbot posts are delivered through the encrypted Pro backup.
- Set up the inbox once. Open app.jotspeed.com while signed in, or run
jot sync. That creates the encrypted inbox chatbots post into. Until it exists, the connector turns posts away.
Connect a chatbot
- In your chatbot, add a custom connector or remote MCP server and paste the URL above. No API key needed. The setting moves around between apps, so look for “custom connector”, “remote MCP server”, or “add MCP server by URL”.
- The chatbot opens a JotSpeed sign-in page. Enter your JotSpeed email and password, then the 6-digit code JotSpeed emails you.
- Click Continue. That’s it. The connection can add entries, and it can’t read, edit, or delete them.
You can also open Settings → Connected chatbots → Add a chatbot in the app for the same URL and steps.
Passkeys don’t work on that sign-in page yet. If you only use a passkey, set a password in the app first (Settings → Change password).
Never type your JotSpeed password into a chat. Enter it only on the JotSpeed sign-in page at mcp.jotspeed.com.
What the chatbot can do
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
post | Adds one entry. Fields: text (required), time (optional, ISO 8601), tags (optional), starred (optional), and idempotency_id (optional; reposting the same id won’t create a duplicate). |
status | Checks the connection: Pro active, inbox ready, and entries waiting to sync. Returns no journal content. |
There is no tool for reading entries. The connector tells chatbots to post only when you ask. Each chatbot can post up to 10 entries a minute and 500 a day.
Entries a chatbot posts get the @bot tag, so you can find them with @bot. It’s on by default. You can turn it off in Settings → Connected chatbots.
New entries show up in open JotSpeed apps within seconds. Otherwise they appear the next time the app or jot syncs.
Privacy
Your journal is encrypted before it leaves your device, and JotSpeed syncs only encrypted copies it can’t read. If you connect a chatbot, the connector sees only what that chatbot posts, in memory, and seals it right away. It keeps no readable copy.
- Post-only. A connection holds a token that can only append. It has nothing that can decrypt your journal.
- Sealed on arrival. For the moment it takes to encrypt a chatbot’s post to your journal’s key, the connector handles that text in plain form, in memory. It doesn’t store or log that text. Only the sealed post is kept, until your app or
jotsyncs it. Your journal stays encrypted at rest. - Your devices decrypt it. The app and the CLI open the sealed post and merge it into your encrypted journal. Entries you write in the app or the CLI are still encrypted on your device.
- No log of what it posts. We keep no log of a chatbot’s posts. You can see each connection in Settings → Connected chatbots and revoke it there. Security activity in Settings shows when a chatbot was connected or disconnected.
- Your chatbot sees what you tell it. The text you ask a chatbot to post passes through that chatbot’s app first, under its own privacy policy.
Revoke access
In the app, open Settings → Connected chatbots and tap Revoke. The chatbot stops working immediately. Entries it already posted stay in your journal.
Changing your password
Sync first. Open the app or run jot sync before you change or reset your password. Chatbot posts that haven’t synced are sealed to your old key, and after the change they can’t be opened.
Changing your password, or Settings → Sign out everywhere, also disconnects every connected chatbot. Connect it again afterwards.
jot mcp
Let a chatbot on your own computer read and jot. jot mcp is a local MCP server over stdio. Its tools are post, search, get, and status. It needs the command line and uses your jot login sign-in, with the key kept in your OS keychain (or, if there is none, in a key file only you can read). No hosted connector is needed.
What it reads is decrypted on that computer, never on our server. It can’t edit or delete, and it tells chatbots to post only when you ask. It works only while that computer is on.
What the chatbot reads goes to that chatbot. Entries it pulls with search or get are decrypted on your computer and passed to the chatbot’s app, under its own privacy policy. Point it only at chatbots you trust.
Posts it makes get the @bot tag too, and the same switch in Settings → Connected chatbots turns that off.
jot mcp
To add it to a chatbot or editor that runs MCP servers on your computer, set the command to jot with the argument mcp. For example, in Grok (~/.grok/config.toml):
[mcp_servers.jotspeed]
command = "jot"
args = ["mcp"]
Command line
Jot, filter, and export from a terminal. jot writes to the same encrypted Pro backup as the app. The free journal stays in the browser.
Install
The jot CLI isn’t available to download right now.
Use the same email and password as the app. Subscribe to Pro in the app first.
jot login
jot login asks for your email and password, then for the 6-digit code JotSpeed emails you. The code works once and expires in 10 minutes. The CLI never stores your password. It keeps only the key made from it, in your OS keychain or, if there is none, in a key file only you can read.
Write
jot "This is the entry."
jot yesterday: Called in sick.
jot "*Best day of the year."
echo "from a pipe" | jot
A leading * bookmarks the entry. jot -starred lists your bookmarked entries.
Read and filter
jot -1
jot -n 10
jot -on yesterday
jot -from "last month" -to today
jot @work
jot @work @home -and
jot -contains invoice
jot -starred
jot -today-in-history
Export and import
jot -n 20 --short
jot --tags
jot --format json
jot --format markdown --file notes.md
jot --import --file journal.txt
Edit
jot --edit -1
jot --delete -1
jot --change-time yesterday --edit -1
--edit opens $EDITOR (or nano).
Sync
jot sync
Pulls in entries that connected chatbots posted.
Sign out and uninstall
jot logout
npm uninstall -g --prefix "$HOME/.local" jotspeed-cli
npm uninstall -g jotspeed-cli
jot logout ends the session on our server as well as on your computer. jot --help lists every option.
Lost your password? Use a recovery code in the app (Forgot password? Use a recovery code on the sign-in sheet), or see Support. The CLI can’t recover a backup without the password.
