Terms
Using the app or site means you agree to these terms. “We” and “us” mean JotSpeed. Last updated 26 October 2026.
The free app
JotSpeed is a journal on your device. Writing, tags, find, and export are free. You do not need an account.
You are responsible for what you write and for keeping a copy if you need one. Export a TXT or PDF file from the menu (Menu → Import / Export). Device storage is not a file in iCloud, Google Drive, or Files.
Your account
Use an email address you control, and keep your password safe. One account per person. To keep the service running, we may limit or pause new sign-ups.
New accounts must confirm their email within 24 hours, or the account is deleted. Accounts made before confirmation existed have 30 days after the next sign-in; after that, sync pauses until you confirm.
JotSpeed Pro
Pro is encrypted sync across devices you sign in on, plus the command line and the chatbot connector. It costs $29 per year in US dollars, plus any applicable tax, billed by Stripe. Subscribe in the app.
Pro renews automatically every year at the then-current price, charged to the card you saved, until you cancel. Cancel anytime in the app under Settings → Manage billing. Cancelling stops the next renewal, and you keep Pro until the end of the year you already paid for. If a renewal payment fails, Stripe retries it for a short time. If it still fails, Pro ends.
Taxes. Prices may not include applicable taxes. Where tax is required, it is calculated and shown at checkout.
Promotion codes. Some codes, such as FOUNDER, make your first year of Pro free. Enter the code at checkout by 31 December 2026, 11:59 PM Eastern. A code works once, only on an account’s first Pro purchase, and cannot be combined with another code or exchanged for cash. You still add a card at checkout. After the free year, Pro renews at the regular price ($29 per year) unless you cancel before the renewal date. We will email you a reminder 7 days before your first paid renewal.
Refunds. If you ask within 30 days of a charge, including a yearly renewal, we will refund that charge in full and end Pro for that year. Write to support@jotspeed.com. After 30 days, charges are not refundable, but you can cancel so you are not charged again.
Exports stay free if Pro lapses. The last encrypted backup stays until you wipe it or your account is deleted.
Password
The sign-in password proves it’s you and unlocks the backup. We cannot email a reset that recovers your journal. If you still have a signed-in device, change the password in Settings. If you lose the password, a recovery code can set a new one. If you lose the password and your recovery codes and have no signed-in device, entries that exist only in the backup cannot be recovered.
A browser tab and the Home Screen app on the same phone can be separate notebooks. Sign in to Pro on each if you want them to match.
AI chatbots
When you connect an AI app, you let it add entries for you. The hosted connector can only add entries; if you run jot mcp on your own computer, a chatbot there can also read your entries. You are responsible for what chatbots you connect post, the same as if you wrote it. AI apps are run by other companies under their own terms and privacy policies. We do not control what they do with what you tell them, or with entries you let them read. Revoke a chatbot anytime in Settings → Connected chatbots.
Your content
Your entries are yours. We claim no rights in them beyond storing and syncing them for you.
Command line
The JotSpeed command line is open source under the GPL-3.0 license. That license covers its code. These terms cover the JotSpeed service it connects to.
Age
You must be at least 13 to use JotSpeed. If you are under 18, you need a parent’s or guardian’s permission. Where local law requires it, as in some EU countries, you must be at least 16.
Acceptable use
Don’t break the service, probe other people’s accounts, or use JotSpeed to abuse others.
Ending your account
You can stop using JotSpeed at any time. To delete your account, write to support@jotspeed.com from the address on the account, and we delete it within 30 days (see Privacy). We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.
“As is”
JotSpeed is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the extent the law allows. Journals are important; we still cannot promise uptime, that a particular phone will keep its storage, or that we can restore what only you could decrypt.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost data, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the last 12 months. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of West Virginia. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Berkeley County, West Virginia, except that either of us may bring a claim in small-claims court. Nothing here requires arbitration. If you live in the EU, EEA, or UK, you also keep the protections and the right to go to court that your local consumer law gives you.
Changes
We may change these terms or the price of Pro. A new price applies from your next renewal, and we will email you at least 30 days before it does, so you can cancel first. If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will update the date above and email account holders before the change takes effect. Using JotSpeed after that means you accept the new terms.
